FROM PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Teaching is one of the noblest and most respected professions. The roles, responsibilities, and preparation of teachers evolve over time in response to rapid social changes and technological advancements. The expanded role of the teacher must be aligned with social and national development. Therefore, teachers must broaden and deepen their knowledge, understanding, skills, and values so they can comprehend the nature of Indian society in the past, appreciate the present, and contribute confidently to the nation’s future well-being.
To understand and reflect deeply on contemporary socio-political, cultural, and economic issues, the teacher’s multiple roles are crucial in society. Teachers must no longer see themselves as mere sources of knowledge, but as facilitators of learning experiences and opportunities.
Today’s teacher must also transmit moral, ethical, and cultural values to help shape the character and personality of students. They should act as true guides and counselors, inspiring positive socio-cultural change and contributing to the building of a prosperous nation.
Teacher education today requires innovation in the context of the globalization of education. It should equip teachers with the latest teaching technologies and methodologies. Modern teaching must play a key role in curriculum transaction, moving beyond traditional methods by incorporating multimedia, technical tools, and other contemporary aids. Conventional teaching approaches rarely engage today’s learners.
Therefore, teacher education institutions must recognize the stark reality: we have the infrastructure of the 19th century, teachers and educators trained in the 20th century, and learners born into the 21st century. This gap between the three centuries can only be bridged through the effective integration of ICT in teacher education, as well as in liberal and professional education. Without this, learners of the current century may face frustration, disengagement, and dissatisfaction.
